We got our house broken into over the weekend. Instead of anger, I mostly feel sorry for whoever did it. Sorry that they felt the need to do such a thing. I can’t imagine being in that position. Thankfully, we were not home and they did not do any major damage. I doubt these were any type of professionals. They took some easy electronic things and left quickly. My heart aches for my children. My son because those electronics were things near and dear to any young boy’s heart. And for my daughters who now feel violated and fearful of someone returning.
I am reminded of what Jesus said in Matthew chapter 5: “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ But I tell you: Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.”
We pray that whoever did this will repent and never feel the need to do it again.
A few words to the wise:
Get some sort of security on your home, be it a monitoring system or motion detection lights and/or sirens or something
Keep desirable objects out of view
Back up your data off site or online. This is a good fire precaution as well.
Get a dog.
Leave a TV on when you leave.
Be careful out there.
