Wow. It’s been a while. Let’s get back into the writing swing with my family’s trip to Disney World.
Since my oldest son Trey has Cystic Fibrosis, he was selected this year by the Make-A-Wish program to go to Orlando with Kurt Warner and his family as part of Kurt’s First Things First Foundation. Kurt is one of my personal heroes not because of his football resume, but because of his unashamed walk with Jesus and his passion to give back. It was an awesome trip that I will not describe in too much detail, but hopefully you get the gist of how much fun we had.
We stayed at Give Kids the World and spent a week with Kurt, his wife Brenda and their seven children and lots of other great people. We got the rock star treatment at all of the parks jumping to the front of lines and enjoying special placements for parades and fireworks. Trey’s favorite part of the trip was Disney Quest, a three-story gaming facility. We also received great gifts everyday, so much so that they had to provide extra luggage so that we could carry it home.
We really got to know Kurt and his family and their story from struggles to greatness. Trey had a special bond with Elijah (they share a common wii language). As soon as we got back, Trey wanted to know when they would see each other again. On Sunday, Kurt delivered a message to the group, and if you don’t know, he is an excellent speaker and preacher. Without a doubt, this will be a trip that none of us will forget.
They plan to hold annual reunion gatherings, so we should be seeing them again next year.
